Tailored social science training for the environmental sectors

We need to understand and positively influence people’s relationships with the environment to achieve conservation aims.

To explore these relationships effectively we need specialist approaches. That’s where social science comes in.

Why do natural science researchers need social science?

Social science helps us understand how people influence and are influenced by their environment.

Social science approaches can also explore why people value nature and what can be done to engage audiences to benefit your cause.

Incorporate these approaches with your existing scientific research and practice methodologies and you will meet your conservation goals more effectively.

Sector-specific training

If you work in an NGO, policy organisation or academic institution we will equip you to understand and integrate the human dimensions of conservation.

We explore the disciplines and methodologies that are most useful in understanding, conducting and commissioning social science research within the environmental sectors, so you can start to apply your learning immediately.

Our training courses are created specifically with environmental professionals in mind, giving you a solid foundation to apply social science to benefit your work.

From theory to practice

Integrating new approaches into your work after a training course can be a daunting task. But taking the training material out of the course programme and into the workplace is essential to ensure your learning (and the time and money invested in the course!) is not wasted.

We face this challenge head on together. By the end of your course, you’ll have a personalised plan for applying social science in your specific work area.

We also offer a follow up 1:1 session with Rebecca a few weeks after your course to review progress and support you with any clarification you need.

Training to suit you

We will run training in person via one day courses at venues across the UK, when lockdown rules allow. Our courses have an experiential ethos, working in groups to understand and apply the material as well as absorb theoretical principles.

Our online training covers the same material over multiple shorter sessions, with a mix of whole group learning and networking, and breakout groups for collaboration and discussion.  We will soon be announcing dates and times to run our Introduction to Social Science for Conservation course for international audiences.

In addition to the core courses we offer throughout the year we can provide in-house training for teams - whether that’s one of our established courses or something created specifically for your organisation’s needs.  Email us to discuss how we can help.
